Instagram is Developing a Private, Shared Reels Feed for Friends

A new Instagram feature has been spotted!

Currently called Blend, the feature (if it’s ever fully launched) will allow you and a friend to enjoy the same feed of Reels based on your shared interests.

TechCrunch reports that Meta has only developed an internal prototype of this feature for now, but the test points to the company’s ongoing efforts to capitalize on direct, peer-to-peer engagement that tends to happen in DMs and private groups.

Blend would allow Instagram to show participating users Reels that it believes all connected parties would enjoy. This could prove to be a compelling way for friends to engage and might have advantages over simply sending Reels of interest as direct messages. It’s also a feature that could (at least at first) be unique to Instagram.

Let’s keep an eye out for the feature to launch more widely in the coming months!
