RIP LinkedIn Creator Mode

In the coming days, LinkedIn will officially retire its Creator Mode.

But fear not, LinkedIn power users! While the dedicated toggle will soon be gone, most of the features you love are here to stay, transitioning into standard options for all users.

Creator mode was an optional feature for LinkedIn users to gain free, additional tools to aid in content creation, analytics, and audience engagement. Tools included:

  • Profile hashtags

  • Featured Content section

  • Prominent “Follow” button on profile instead of a “Connect” button

  • LinkedIn Live and Audio Events hosting capabilities

  • Newsletter creation and promotion

  • A custom “Follow” link to help promote your profile off-site

The mode was also reserved for only users who met certain criteria, including an audience base of more than 150 followers and/or connections, recent posting activity, and an overall “good standing record on LinkedIn.”

Starting in March 2024, these features will be available to everyone, regardless of whether they were previously a "creator." (It seems that profile hashtags, however, will be removed entirely.)

Why it Matters

The good news: you still have access to the tools you need to showcase your expertise and build your audience on LinkedIn. The new format may just require adjusting to the new landscape for anyone who had rown accustomed to the Creator Mode features.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Stand out with a killer profile. With everyone gaining access to the "Featured" section, it's more important than ever to curate your best content and showcase your value proposition at the top of your profile.

  • Embrace the "Follow" button. This might be a shift for those used to the "Connect" button, but if you are working to build an audience of followers rather than direct connections, consider switching your default profile CTA to “Follow” and encouraging your target audience to follow you for regular updates and insights.

  • Experiment and refine your strategy. As LinkedIn continues to evolve, so should your approach. Experiment with different content formats, track your analytics, and see what resonates best with your audience.
