TikTok’s new Stitch feature lets users build off of other videos

A new feature called Stitch is empowering TikTok users to build off of other people’s creativity. The result is unique video clips of fun remixes and more.

Here’s how to use the Stitch feature on TikTok:

Where to find the Stitch button in the TikTok app interface.

Where to find the Stitch button in the TikTok app interface.

  • When you see a video you'd like to Stitch, and hit the “Send to” button, then click “Stitch.”

  • Select up to five seconds from the video. You can trim the clip to your preferred duration.

  • Record your addition to the Stitched clip.

  • Users can also use their settings to allow content to be stitched (or not) on the Privacy and Safety page of the app.

Here are a few examples of the Stitch feature in action. 🙂

Why it matters

Stitch is similar to the Duet feature of TikTok, which allows users to create content that appears side-by-side with an existing video. Stitching also allows for this kind of “expanded storytelling:”

Like Duet, Stitch is a way to reinterpret and add to another user’s content, building on their stories, tutorials, recipes, math lessons, and more.

As explained by SocialMediaToday, “Duets and remixes have become a key part of how users interact and engage on the platform.” TikTok is doubling down on the idea of collaborative content in a way that may be very appealing to user.

(Of course, this feature could be out of reach for us here in the U.S. before long. Read more about the potential TikTok ban in our August updates.)
